Kortrijk is located if the Flemish province of West Flanders on the River Leie, 26 miles southwest of Ghent and 16 miles northeast of Lille in France. The City dates back to Roman times but grew rapidly thanks to wool and flax trading with France and England.
Much of the cities medieval architecture remains intact and is remarkably well preserved. The city centre is one of the largest carfree areas in Belgium.
